Collection: Merritt Horan Capurro
Calling the Bay area home since birth, Multi Media artist Merritt Horan Capurro pulls from her own life story, history, & her surroundings for her art. After college, where she
earned a BFA from UCF in Orlando, she moved to NYC and began her unforeseen career in Textile design for the fashion industry. Working across brands and categories for a boutique studio, Sano Design Services, she honed her skills in Adobe, Digital printing, & navigating the cutthroat world of fashion.
Moving back home after leaving the fashion world, she yearned to start a famnily with her husband of (now) 8 years, whom she married in 1/7/17. Having a baby boy only 21 months later, she swapped to working for herself, having established Creative Earth, LLC in 2017 & then her Design brand Bunch of Sunshine thereafter. After the Pandemic brought a screeching halt to plans in motion, she pivoted to Murals & monthly art shows around St. Pete all the while keeping ties to her CAD beginnings by freelancing for USPA even still today. She balances "doing it all" by finding a bandwidth and sticking to it, leaning into areas that bring true joy to her heart, and exploring new themes in her artwork.
That vulnerability allowed her to find her latest series "Fruity Soiree" which is complrised of tonal fruit still life arrangements- all including a disembodied hand breaking through into the space with various themed fruits. Her aim is to tell the story of her marriage - through interpretive designs with subversive meanings. She invites the conversation to be had about subjects that people tend to hide. Marriage is "for better or worse" so she finds her way through those moments in her art.
